Dear Ms. Yangzi,
I am a psychologist in the United States, and with many colleagues we have devised a special procedure for desensitizing patients with PTSD, which is easy to learn, and has been shown to be effective. I am attaching our Treatment Manual for you, free, as well as two articles about it. You are free to read these and use them in Sechwan. Please contact me and let me know if you have any questions, and keep us informed of your work, and your needs. Good luck with everything!
Sincerely,
Dr. David Read Johnson

Dear friends from Chengdu Youth Association and Sichuan Univ. Art Society :
I hope this message forwarded from the PTSD+ANGELS group reaches you so that you can
learn about our organization, CHART (Communities Healing through Art) and our efforts to
assist in psychosocial relief in Sichuan after the earthquake disaster.
To summarize from my earlier email to PTSD + ANGELS (see below..) CHART can work with
your organizations in a number of ways to bring arts therapies resources to bear in
helping children and families recovering emotionally and psychologically from the
disaster. We can help both with placement of trained clinicians in the field to work
directly with victims as well as in 'train the trainers' scenarios where we can train
local professionals in the methods of art therapy so that these efforts can be
sustainable and in place for the long-term.
We look forward to hearing from you and please get more information on us at these links:

Dear PtsdAngels,
Thank you for contacting Sidran. First, I would like to thank you and all the people in your organization for reaching out to all the individuals who have been affected by this devastating natural disaster. You are truly angels for taking the time to research and create a safe haven for those whose lives have been changed forever. This will be a very difficult time for everyone involved. Please make sure to take care of yourselves as well. Your mental health as helpers through this is essential and needs to be a priority. I have a lot to send to you. I will be sending you links to articles, attachments to PDF files that are relevant, and more info. I will try to address al the items that you asked for. If I happen to miss anything, please do not hesitate to write us back. We are very committed to helping you get as much information as possible, to create an educated, comprehensive and therapeutic environment for these victims.
One of the most important things to remember is that every individual will process their experience in an individual manner. It is a safe assumption that everyone has experienced some form of trauma, whether they were personally injured or saw something disturbing to those who may have only heard or briefly seen something. Due to the enormous quantity of people affected, the most important thing is to identify red flags and give assistance to those who are exhibiting those symptoms.
Below are links to very helpful books in our bookstore on Vicarious Traumatization/ Secondary Traumatic Stress. I would highly consider making these available to your organization. These books can be ordered through us, and we can make arrangements to send them internationally.
Help for the Helper: The Psychophysiology of Compassion Fatigue and Vicarious Trauma by Babette Rothschild with Marjorie Rand http://www.sidran.or?g/store/index.cfm?fu?seaction=product.dis?play&Product_ID=152
Here Babette Rothschild draws on the powerful mind-body perspective put forward in her highly successful The Body Remembers in order to help therapists help themselves through an understanding of the role the body plays in mental health and overall well-being.
Transforming the Pain: A Workbook on Vicarious Traumatization by Karen W. Saakvitne and Laurie Anne Pearlman http://www.sidran.or?g/store/index.cfm?fu?seaction=product.dis?play&Product_ID=20
Offering support and reassurance, this workbook defines and describes the process of VT (vicarious traumatization), an inescapable effect of trauma work. It includes self-assessment worksheets, guidelines, and exercises for addressing VT and improving self-care. It is designed to be used by a wide range of professionals and paraprofessionals.
Treating Compassion Fatigue by Charles Figley http://www.sidran.or?g/store/index.cfm?fu?seaction=product.dis?play&Product_ID=53
In the wake of several national tragedies, understanding and treating secondary stress is becoming increasingly important. Keeping mental health professionals healthy just happens to make good sense. Figley deftly addresses these and other related issues including theory, research, and treatment. This book is for therapists, counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, trauma specialists, researchers, social workers, and other healthcare professionals who work with traumatized individuals.

Be prepared to leave them a message since I believe they only have part time staff. Or you can search their website component: http://mentalhelp.ne?t/selfhelp/
I have added a few links to this email as well.

3. What is The Psychological Impact on Journalists Covering Natural Disasters- Article about helpers (specifically journalists) and how the exposure impacts them.
I will send you another email after this one that will have information about children with PTSD. We have a lot of information, and want to make sure that the files aren¨t too large when we send them. Also, if you should have any more questions concerning shipping of any books on our website please email us.
PtsdAngels, please feel free to contact us with any questions through this difficult time. We honor and admire your dedication in helping survivors be supported, educated, comforted and guided through this journey of healing. If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me again. Thank you for being such wonderful Angels!
